lets get it done.

Hey blog, so for this time around I'm going to officially finish my two page spread. I've been kinda jumping around back and forth between my New York article and Maui article, but I'm not gonna move on until I complete this article. It's already like 75% done, I Just need like one more paragraph. So in case you have forgotten, I wrote the first page about activities and the second pages all about food and places to eat. For the second page, I chose a variety of restaurants so it is not limited to just a particular type of restaurant, and the "reader" can choose whichever restaurant they might be in the mood for. I'll update this blog once I have finished.

Hellllllo blog! It is official, I completed my two page spread! Wow, just wow, it turned out beautifully. The second page I wrote about three different restaurants: A breakfast place, traditional Hawaiian seafood place, and Italian restaurant. However, I noticed that canvas shifted everything upwards, so I'll try and fix that because it annoys me with those giant white spaces. Other than that, I'm actually kinda proud of the way it turned out! Anyway, that is it for this blog. See you next time! -Jack

new york-new yORKKKKKKKK

Hello blog. Not a ton has happened since my last blog, just a little bit of work and touch ups, and some more research. I've been primarily focusing on my New York City article and research surrounding that. I've already chosen my pictures (I'll include again). Even though I recently took a trip to New York where I did lots of things with my sister, both day and night, I still want to research the places so I can include a variety of thorough options for my "readers". For example, I went to Juniors, a famous breakfast place but only ordered a small stack of strawberry pancakes. So I want to research other items on the menu so I can include multiple options. As for the rest of the article, I want to include one restaurant, one activity, and one thing to see. So that's it for this blog, see you next time! -Jack

New York, for the last time (I swear)

Hey blog. So it's spring break and I know I said in previous blogs that I said even though I was ahead I wasn't going to slow down, but I lied. Things have slowed down a tad more than I had hoped. It's just I lost a tad of motivation to do my final article on New York. I've been working on this one for a good minute now but we're gonna finish it this time. Like I said in previous posts, I'm including one restaurant, one activity, and one thing to see. Also, like in the last blog, I'll put the finished thing in the bottom.

So little problem with attaching my article, since I can't get it to download. But no need to worry, I finished the article. I wrote about times square and multiple other things. I wrote mostly about restaurants as I've been to many great places in New York, it's easy, and a lot of them are open all day and night. So, that means we're wrapping up on the magazine. That's it for this blog, see you next time. -Jack

touch ups

Hello blog. So I've been working on numerous things recently. Before I finish my two page spread, I wanted to go back to and brush up some things. This includes making things that are on two separate pages symmetrical. This is particularly hard because you can't drag things over. Besides that, I've also gone through making sure things are grammatically correct and make sense. I've caught quite a few stupid mistakes that make literally zero sense. I also had some friends go through it to catch any of the mistakes that I couldn't. Doing the peer reviews in class, have been extremely helpful to me and some of the things pointed out were things that I had not noticed, so I decided to try it with my family. Initially, they liked the cover but my title was worded weird. I tried to fix this but it surprisingly difficult to do so. Overall, that is really the only major thing they pointed out to me and said that it looked like it was coming along very nicely. That is it for this blog, see you next time! -Jack

good ol’ feedback part two

Hey blog! So today in class, we had another peer feedback. It’s gone really well and has made me realize that I’m actually quite far ahead as some people haven’t even started. This is nice because it leaves me room to change or fix things if I need to. I don’t plan on slowing down. My group had a lot to say about my progress thus far. They really liked the cover and title, as Vagabond represented the main theme I wanted to carry out (backpacker travel). However, they thought that some of the descriptions on my table of contents were a little to wordy and suggested I cut them down a bit. One person noticed that the page numbers were closer together and didn’t go up that far. So I changed the page numbers to spread them out and have the magazine go past 20 pages. They REALLY liked the two page spread and how the pictures and story was laid out, with the activities being first and then the part about places to eat and food. A common design I’ve been carrying across all pages of my magazine, is I’m highlighting key words and they thought that made certain things bold and stand out. Anyway, I’m super happy of what has happened and how my magazine has turned out. I think it looks really good. That’s it for this blog! See you guys next time! -Jack

guy fieri... kinda

Hey blog! So I've been working on the second page of my two page spread and its not as easy as I thought it would be. I'm running int trouble making everything flow naturally and getting the pictures lined up. It's hard for the pictures because canva is actually so frustrating! They keep changing things so I always have to go back and start over. Other than that, writing the article is also challenging because the second page is all about food and I wanna include a bunch of different options for different types of foods and budgets but there is just so much to talk about! I went with a Hawaiian seafood place, breakfast place, quick and cheap, and some others. Anyway, so far that's what I have. I will update you guys once it is completely finished. See you next time! -Jack

start spreading the news...

Hey there blog! What's up? So recently I've been working on layouts of my stories and it's actually a lot harder than I had thought it would be. Every picture has to have its place that fits well with the rest of the story. I want the flow to be natural and easy to follow. Also, in this article about New York, it's all about things to do at any hour in the day. This includes activities and places to eat. I've compiled a list of places that apply to those two places so writing this article shouldn't be difficult! Anyway, that's it for this blog, see you next time! -Jack

three in one

Hey blog, what's up? So I'm currently working on the second page of my two page spread. I've been working on the layout of the photos and I've come up with a couple of different ones. I'm going to use three pictures and I want the layout to be simple and elegant. One of the pictures of included is a photo of a map of the island of maui and I think that it actually looks really cool. The other two pictures are of myself surfing, and the inside of jeep on a beach road in Maui. Anyway, I'll include the different layouts and comment what you guys think! Anyway, that is it for this blog, I'll see you next time! -Jack

two for one

Hey blog, how's it going? Anyway, I've recently started working on my two-page spread. It's going good thus far. However, since I am using canvas I am growing a tad annoyed as you cannot have two pages side by side, so lining everything up and making things symmetrical is quite difficult and inconvenient. Despite this minor hiccup, everything else is going quite well. I have just finished the first page! The first page will be about things to do, and the second page will also include places to try and eat! Tell me what you guys think about. Anyway, that is it for this blog, see you next time. - Jack

she is glowing!

Hey blog, how are you doing? I'm doing just fine! I've been putting a lot of time and effort into altering the cover, and creating the table of contents. WOW, JUST WOW! I truly believe it looks amazing, I put so much effort into it and I'm loving the way the beginning turned out. I'm sorry blog, I'm so proud of what my magazine tuned into, thus far! Anyway, that's it for this blog see you next time! -Jack

cover up!

Hey blog, so in keeping with what I talked about last time about the cover. I created two designs and actually really like them. The second one you can see resembles National Geographic, while the second one is completely unique. What do you guys like? Comment below!! Anyway, that's it for this blog, see you next time! -Jack

the fore FONT

Hi blog, working on the cover currently and the font specifically. I've chosen a number of fonts from canva and these are a few of my favorites. What do you guys think?

Personally, I like the first one and the last one the best. The first one because it's quirky and unique, but the I like the last one because it's simplistic and modern. I think I am going to go with the last one because I want a modern and simple magazine cover that still is bold. That's it for this blog, see you next time. -Jack

good ol' feedback

Hey blog, so today in class we discussed our blogs and overall projects. I received feedback on my progress thus far. For the places I chose, my group thought the places were great. However, they suggested I choose Miami/Fort Lauderdale, over New York to go along side with my two page spread on Hawaii so that I can stick with an overall tropical/beachy theme. For the rest of the things I said I wanted to include in my magazine: activities, places to eat, lodging, and traveling hacks - they thought it was great and inclusive for all audience groups. With the feedback that I was given, I've gained a lot. However, there won't be any major changes but only minor tweaks. That's it for this blog, see you next time. -Jack

here, or there?

Hey blog, how have you been? So recently in blogs, I've talked about my trip to New York and how I want to write about it, but I'm having a bit of a dilemma. On one hand, I want to write about New York but on the other I feel Miami would be interesting as it is close in proximity to where I live. There is lots in Miami, even I haven't tried yet. With that in mind I created a list of both the places. Since I recently took a trip to New York, I'm going to take a trip to Miami to refresh my memory on certain things and try new stuff too! I wanna go over spring break with my friends, so I'll let you know how it goes! Anyway, that's it for this blog, see you next time! -Jack

the city that never sleeps

Hey blog, so I recently took a trip to New York this weekend with my Dad and took a lot of good photos. My Dad even took a photo of me taking a photo! Since I wanted to include a second article, I decided on New York since my recent trip. I ate at a bunch of cool places and loved my time at Central Park, see the pictures (in case you couldn't tell)! I went to the top of the New World Trade Center for lunch and it had both great food and views. One of the best parts of New York is that it isn't difficult to travel to, there's many affordable options for travel, lodging, and activities. Anyway, see you next time blog! -Jack

content, content, content.

Hi blog, welcome back. So I've been looking at a bunch of different magazine table of contents and I've seen a lot I like. I'll attach some below. Following that I've decided to include more than just the minimum, I would like to include a second or even third article. I haven't decided the place yet but since the two-page spread is Hawaii, I want to do something different. I'll keep you updated, see you in the next blog! -Jack

on the road

hi blog, I've been unbelievably busy recently but I'm back!!! I officially decided on a magazine title, "On The Road". And with the rest of the cover being done, the next thing I must tackle is the table of contents. I was thinking I'd do a horizontal row of all the places I decided to include (included in two posts ago) with pictures on every other side. This way it isn't too complicated and messy but still provides an artsy aesthetic. As for the other side I am not quite sure yet, I might include an image and half an article. See you guys in the next post! -Jack

The final product.

Hey blog, this is the finished product of my magazine. After months of hardworking I'm very happy with the results and hope I get a g...
