content, content, content.

Hi blog, welcome back. So I've been looking at a bunch of different magazine table of contents and I've seen a lot I like. I'll attach some below. Following that I've decided to include more than just the minimum, I would like to include a second or even third article. I haven't decided the place yet but since the two-page spread is Hawaii, I want to do something different. I'll keep you updated, see you in the next blog! -Jack

on the road

hi blog, I've been unbelievably busy recently but I'm back!!! I officially decided on a magazine title, "On The Road". And with the rest of the cover being done, the next thing I must tackle is the table of contents. I was thinking I'd do a horizontal row of all the places I decided to include (included in two posts ago) with pictures on every other side. This way it isn't too complicated and messy but still provides an artsy aesthetic. As for the other side I am not quite sure yet, I might include an image and half an article. See you guys in the next post! -Jack

the cover

Hello World, welcome back to another blog. I've done a little bit more planning than the last time I update you guys. I've brainstormed magazine tittles and come up with a few: Around the World, Permanent Vacation, Travelers Digest, On the Road. I want my magazine tittle to be bold and stand out, both with the name and with the font/color I decide to use. As for the rest of the cover, as I mentioned in a previous post, I want it to be simple but striking, but for the photo I chose a beautiful image. I edited it as little as possible so that people won't be disappointed if they ever get the chance to see in person. I've chosen it because of its vibrant colors but I don't want to include it because I want it to be a surprise, but I promise it's a good one. I've also chosen the other articles to include (other than the main two page spread about Hawaii). I chose "33 Flying Hacks", "91 things to do in New York City" and "3 best places to take a photo". That's it for this blog, see you next time.

the fore front

Welcome back to another blog! I'm sure my decision to change my magazine genre to travel, left you excited to see what I had plan! I've recently compiled a list of all the places I've traveled and narrowed it down to the places I want to include the most in my magazine. I chose, Hawaii, Colorado, California, Canada, Ireland, Miami, and New York! I have thousands of experiences of places to eat, things to see, and fun activities to do in all of these places! For my main two page spread, I chose Hawaii because of its uniqueness on my list of places, and the natural beauty it has. For research, I looked back through my photos of all the places on my list, and selected the best photos and placed them into a separate album. Additionally, I've researched prices for travel and lodging in different places in Hawaii to see which is the most affordable but still nice. For the Miami part of my magazine because I am so close, I'm trying to plan a trip there with friends to try things I haven't done there before and eat places I've never tried. For taking the best quality pictures, I have both my phone and a higher quality Canon camera. I'm going to attach some of the photos I am planning on including in my magazine as a little preview! Enjoy, and see you next time.

simple and seductive

Hi guys, welcome back to another blog. Its been a while. I've done some research and thinking recently, and I've decided to change the genre/topic of my magazine issue. I had it as student life, but I'm going to change it to travel. I've been fortunate enough to be able to travel to places around the world: California, Ireland, Hawaii, to name a few. With that I have documented hundreds of pictures of those places and I;m going to place the best ones in my magazine. I wanna show whomever will be reading my magazine that the world is a big, beautiful places waiting to be explored. I'm taking lots of inspiration for "Travel and Leisure" has they have endless lists on places to visit. In addition to places to visit, they also have travel deals, cruises, lists of the best places, etc. For my cover image, I wanna have an eye catching a photo that stands out to other similar magazines. One that shows off the beauty of wherever the particular place I choose. So far, these are some examples of what I might want to base my cover of off, something simple yet elegant and beautiful. Stay tuned for another blog post! -Jack

diamond in the rough

Two blog, in one day?! Exciting I know, welcome back to another blog. I hope you enjoy this one!

Teen life is often misinterpreted and represented in a stereotypical way within the media. With only nerds playing video games, or blondes being the dumb ones while Asians are the smart ones. These can, more than often, be false and misrepresented. There are multiple things I wish to represent in my magazine on teen life. Including cheerleaders and student leaders.

Almost every, if not all, high schools have some type of cheerleaders for their sports teams. Whether that be football, basketball, etc. They show the rest of the school what true spirit and excitement is. Cheerleaders have been represented in many different film and television series, but most the most iconic way is in Bring It On. This film shows two high school cheerleading teams quest for winning a state championship. The depict cheerleaders from one school, as rude, pretentious, and unintelligent persons. I believe this to be a misrepresentation of this group. Most of the time, they’re approachable and intelligent students. Another group sometimes represented by the media is student leaders. In the film Alex Stranglove, the main character Alex, is the student body president. He is depicted as someone who often, doesn’t like to have any fun. This is a misinterpretation as, like most highschoolers, student leaders want to both encourage the fun and participate in it.

The media often misinterprets teen life in school and makes things sterotypical, although the do occasionally accurately represent a certain type. For example, they often represent cheerleaders as the spirited people on campus, and student leaders as the role models, which is often true. These types of representation characteristics I would retain. A representation I would challenge that the media often portrays is that blondes are dumb. This is often incorrect, blondes can be valedictorians and among the top percentage tiles in their class. Hair color has no correlation to intelligence. This is one of many representation characteristics I would challenge.

a fresh start

Hello world, and welcome back to another blog. It’s been a while, did ya miss me? Well, I hope you enjoy this blog!

Blog post #1
  1. Genre: Travel & vacations
  2. Genre conventions(content): The magazine would depict some of the amazing sites in local cities; Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and the Keys. As well as around the world in pleaded in which the writer has traveled. The content would include things to do, places to eat, the best place/location to stay and sights to see.
  3. Genre conventions(techniques): Use original pictures from the writers journeys to places they’ve been. And things they personally did, places they stayed, and things they wished they had done. For local places, the writer can go and interview locals to see their point of view on things tourists should see.
  4. Film/magazine sample #1: National Geographic Traveler. National Geographic traveler is a perfect example of the message and story I am trying to convey. The feature galleries filled with hundreds of beautiful photos of places the writers and publishers have traveled. They also include stories about top ten places to go, if interested in a certain thing. For example, there’s a story about the top ten cities for cycling. They also provide a list of the best tours and how to book them in certain cities.
  5. Film/magazine sample #2: Afar. Afar is a magazine that helps people become informed on other cultures, countries, and unique places in the world. They provide news and help about countries around the world. Their main goal is to help people expand their horizons and travel to lands different and more unique than the place they’ve been to, while stilling assisting in providing an authentic experience.
